Join us in the Great Hall to celebrate and preserve African American quilt history. The African American Quilt Documentation Study Group will document the family history embedded in your quilt, creating a permanent record for future generations. These records will also assist historians and researchers by providing a better understanding of the social and cultural significance of African American quilts, the quilt makers, and their quilting traditions. Register below and bring in your family quilt, regardless of condition, to be examined, photographed, and recorded in the national African American Quilt Archive and Database. Due to time constraints, participants are limited to one quilt per appointment. Leave a note under Additional Information if you have more than one quilt to document.

Yes. AAQDSG's purpose is to document and archive the history embedded in African American quilts.
No, AAQDSG is committed to providing African American quilt documentation for FREE. We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) and operate solely on gifts, donations, and grants.
Registration is open until October 31, 2026, the day before the event. Appointment slots are limited because of the time allotted for this event, so registration closes once they are filled, even if that happens before the deadline.
If registration has closed, email your contact information to [email protected]. You will be contacted and put on a list for future quilt documentation events in the area, and you will be notified if a slot opens through a cancellation.
To document as many quilts as possible at this event, appointment times allow one quilt per family.
If you have more than one quilt to document, note the additional quilts in the space provided at the end of the registration form. AAQDSG will contact you about options for documenting them and will add you to a contact list for future quilt documentation events in the area.

Yes. A resource list for repair and restoration will be posted on the AAQDSG website soon.
AAQDSG does not offer quilt appraisal services. However, we can provide contact information of an appraiser in your area if you email your location and contact information to [email protected].
Yes, the event is open to the public. Registration is only required for documentation participants.
